This is at the top of my list to review later this season on my YouTube channel. In the meantime though, check out the excellent video spotlight of this piece by Cannibal Reviews. Here we are, the number 1 spot. Some of you longtime collectors may shake your head at a new piece beating out some the classic favorites on this list…and you know what? When votes started coming in and Mad Pumpkin Patch started doing very well, I was worried that perhaps folks were a little too focused on it being the new hotness.
I almost disqualified it. You know what happened when I talked to some of my other friends that are involved in this hobby, though?
They all said they voted for it as one of their three and that it absolutely should be left on! Fair enough, then. The Mad Pumpkin Patch was released just last year, and was the absolute star of …and that goes for ALL Halloween village pieces released, even those put out by different companies.
The building has dynamic lighting, great animation and killer theming. Doing the YouTube thing, I heard from several folks that the MPP pushed them over the edge to finally get started in villaging, and what more could you want? It took the top spot in our poll! I want to thank the hundreds of you that participated in this poll, and I look forward to running another one in a couple years to see what changes! I have much more villaging in store as we head towards the season!

At the base of the distillery, the quality control table rotates as a skeleton worker checks out every bottle and the final product moves through a conveyor belt to the second floor. The Carnival of Carnage is a three-level circus tower. Its main entrance is guarded by a creepy clown mouth.
The second level is decorated with worrisome signs, including one that warns you there's no turning back. At the top is a classic circus-tent roof with blowing flags, exterior lighting, and scary characters lurking in the shadows. Isle of Creepy Jacks has a massive Jack-o'-lantern cave with spooky fog emerging from the pumpkin's mouth. This Michaels Exclusive item features pumpkin-headed figures creepily rotating—taking over the entire island.
The Horrid Haunted Hotel guarantees that once you check in, you'll never check out. You can see some unlucky guests being chased by the grim reaper. All throughout the hotel are creepy details like a bullet hole through the second-floor window, the spinning padlock, and an hourglass slowly ticking away.
If it's bad apples you're looking for, then the Bad Apple Shop is the place for you. On the roof are three candy-coated apples that are protected by an owl, a spider, and a snake.
If you're not intimidated by the terrifying snakes wrapped around the building, then just walk up to the window and order! The Witching Hour is upon us! You can't miss it thanks to this Michaels Exclusive creepy clock tower. Witches fly on their brooms all around this stone building with a astronomical clock on its face.
A witch chases a man near the base of the tower, while some spooky sounds play that will have you screaming! The Apparition Academy is the one and only school for new ghosts. This two-story building is filled with fun signs that hint at what it's like to be a ghost in training.
The studious ghosts can be seen throughout the building, some reading books on the roof and one popping its head out the window. Arachnophobes beware!
Only several problems as far as glue-ons, but this piece will run forever and is very quiet. You can see the Spooky Villages review of the Wheel of Horror right here. Despite it not including animation or dynamic lighting, the eerie green light inside alongside the flashes of lightning and solid porcelain construction make for a revolutionary piece.
Released in , this lab was the first ever spooky town piece to feature sound and interior lighting, making it certainly a gem to have in any collection. I got this piece myself in and it has been running strong ever since. With a striking appearance, vibrant orange coloring, pulsating lighting and rotating pumpkins, the mad pumpkin patch brought life to an otherwise tired line of pieces ranging the years I can see the Mad Pumpkin Patch theming with a haunted farm, but also alongside the recently released Eerie Go Round and Tilt and Hurl in a pumpkin scene.
I got this piece in and I have to say the speaker quality is clear as a whistle compared to the years — definitely an improvement. My piece is running alright, but many others I know have minor problems with both of the animated parts on this piece — shown most obviously in the Michaels promotional video in I could go on about this piece, but personally I consider it to be a revival of spooky town as a whole so I think that speaks for itself.
Coming in at number 7 is a personal favorite of mine, the lit House of Wax from For this reason, this piece sits nicely in the rear of a village display, and will surely be seen quite well thanks to the interior yellow lights, dynamic cauldron lighting, and extravagant and unique animation. The animation is unlike any other spooky town piece for this one — Igor rings the bell, the mummy jumps out of the coffin in the front, and I suppose the third animation is quite common although uncommon with modern pieces.
Up at number 6 is the standalone but extravagant Vampire Castle. This piece explores a theme not very common to spooky town, making it not only a favorite of mine but relatively rare.
Recently retired in , this piece was quite popular for many years and for good reason. The hefty vampire castle is decked out in purple exterior lighting and is made via solid porcelain construction and features two main animations.
The spinning rooftop vampire, and the most iconic animation, the sliding coffin door. Generally used with Spooky Town items, but it works with Christmas items equally as well.
