We may sing some songs and we pray. What we are not doing is marching down the street to have a debate with Westboro. We want people to know that … there is love here in the face of that exclusion. Is this about giving support to the school or about showing the community a kinder, gentler Baptist witness?
I think those are tied together. Westboro protesters call themselves Baptists. Get ready to face palm and slam your head on the desk at the same time. He also condemned the "militant sodomites" running America into the ground in his letter and asked Hussein if he would allow a group from the WBC to go and preach in Baghdad.
Saddam Hussein soon granted Phelps permission and before long, members of the Westboro Baptist Church were on the streets of Iraq, promoting anti-American views and hateful protests about the US military! As well as condemning the military, the WBC protestors were also there with signs that attacked the then President Bill Clinton and wife Hillary.
Some signs were also condemning anal sex and all forms of homosexuality. The WBC are so utterly obsessed and consumed by their own message that they will protest under the flimsiest pretense imaginable.
Each and every one of their protests has a ridiculous reasoning behind it, but perhaps one of their strangest targets was once a store that sold Swedish vacuum cleaners. In , members of the Church protested outside an appliance store in their hometown of Topeka, Kansas. Their reason? Because at the time, Sweden had arrested a homophobic Christian pastor. The fact that his arrest made the entire Swedish nation a target, in their view, is unbelievably pathetic.
These guys will literally protest anyone with a shred of human decency. The Phelps and other leaders or spokesperson of the group use their propaganda and fear to control the religious group. They focus on using hate words and fear to make individuals feel as if they are guilty or sinners and need to repent in order to go to heaven.
These people spend the majority of their lives fearing and believing they will be going to hell if they do not practice the Westboro Baptist Church ideals. Although most of them do not believe they are being tricked into participating in a group through fear, they are being controlled by their superiors. You make an unfortunate but true point in saying that wherever there is a cult, there is propaganda. Because the ideas inside of the cult are often outside of the norm, it takes a lot more persuasion on their part to gain new members.
In most cases, cults usually slowly integrate their members to the abnormal ideas that they hold. To do so, it is not surprising that the truth is bent and propaganda is used to gain like-minded members. Like Like. You are commenting using your WordPress. I am beyond thrilled with how it looks; it came out beautiful. Plus we were worried about the neighbors. Not the Westboro neighbors…You know, in this community most of the homes are owned by Westboro Baptist people. You would not believe how many people have pulled up in front of our house.
I knew this would become a big story on Facebook, that people would pass this around. What I did not think is that the international community would get so involved in this, and that the local community would get so involved.
They have been saying some stuff through Twitter. I guess they gave a quote to CNN calling us the Sodomite house. I think they tweeted that this is some sort of battle where the Devil is on one side of the street and God is on the other side. But have they spoken to you personally?
